How old is the roof on your home or business? Roofing claims to last anywhere from 15 to 50 or more years, but that doesn’t account for inclement weather or other unexpected issues in many cases. If you are unsure if it’s time to replace the roofing on your building, check out these warning signs to help you make the decision.

You Know the Roof Is Old

If you know the roof is past its prime, you shouldn’t put off replacing it, even if it seems to be holding up well. Experts agree that an asphalt shingle roof lasts 20-25 years but can last for less time if the new roof was installed over old layers. This means that anything installed before 2000 likely needs to be replaced.

You See Bad Shingles

Regardless of the age of the roof, if it’s showing significant signs of wear and tear, you need to replace it. If shingles are missing, there could be further damage reaching into the ceiling of the top floor. Other signs of wear and tear include curling or buckling shingles or otherwise loose portions of roofing.
